Waterstones Challenge: Terms and Conditions

The promoter is Counter Culture Drinks Ltd (company number 13509128) of 6 Skyline Park, Bristol BS4 5EN ("Counter Culture", "we"). The promotion takes place at Waterstones Gower Street, 82 Gower Street, London WC1E 6EQ. Waterstones is not the promoter and is not responsible for the promotion.

Who can enter

     
  1. Open to UK residents aged 18 or over.
    2.  
  2. Not open to employees of Counter Culture, Drinks Hub or Waterstones, their immediate families, or anyone else professionally connected with the promotion.

  3. Entry is free. No purchase necessary.

How to enter

     
  1. Scan the QR code at the Counter Culture stand, or visit counterculturedrinks.com/pages/waterstones-challenge, and submit a guess of how many physical books are in the shop.

  2. To be in with a chance of winning the voucher, you must also submit your email address. Guesses submitted without an email address ("playing for fun") are not entered for the voucher.
    3.  
  3. The promotion opens at 12:00 on Wednesday 30 September 2026 and closes at 17:00 on Thursday 1 October 2026 ("the closing time"). Entries received after the closing time will not count.

  4. One entry per person. If you enter more than once, only your first entry counts.
    5.  
  5. Guesses must be a whole number. Entries that are incomplete, illegible or made by automated means are void.
    6.  
  6. You do not need to sign up to Counter Culture marketing to enter, and doing so does not improve your chances of winning.

The prize

     
  1. There is one prize: a £150 Waterstones gift card.
    2.  
  2. The prize is non-transferable and has no cash alternative. If the prize becomes unavailable for reasons beyond our control, we may substitute a prize of equal or greater value.

  3. The voucher is subject to the issuer's own terms, including any expiry date.

How the winner is chosen

     
  1. The correct answer is the number of physical books in the shop as counted by the Waterstones Gower Street store manager on 30the September 2026. We recorded this number in writing before the promotion opened.

  2. The winner is the entrant whose guess is closest to the correct answer, whether above or below it.
    3.  
  3. If two or more entrants are equally close, the entry received first wins.
    4.  
  4. We will email the winner by Friday 2 October 2026. The winner must reply within 14 days to claim the prize. If they do not, or are ineligible, the prize goes to the next closest eligible entrant.

  5. We will make the winner's first name and county available on request. Email hello@counterculturedrinks.com within one month of the closing time.

Free tote

     
  1. Anyone who submits a guess at the stand during the event can collect one free tote bag with one can of Counter Culture inside, by showing the confirmation screen to the team. You do not need to enter for the voucher or give your email address.

  2. One tote per person, available only at the stand while it is open. While stocks last: 200 totes are available in total.

  1. We use your email address and guess to run this promotion, tell you whether you have won and contact the winner. We will only send you marketing if you ticked the box to receive it, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

  1. By entering, you agree to these terms.

  2. We may cancel or change the promotion, or these terms, if circumstances beyond our reasonable control make it necessary. We will tell entrants about any significant change on this page.

  3. We may disqualify any entry we reasonably believe breaks these terms or is fraudulent.

  4. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or anything else that cannot be limited by law.

  5. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
